60 Minutes update
June 23, 2008

Okay, tonight it’s my turn. Since I’m waiting for Anderson to start with 360° I’ll take the opportunity to share some thoughts about 60 Minutes. Although it’s been a repeat I’ve been impressed and sad.

It’s possible to save these children from starvation with little effort and still it’s impossible to achieve this goal. Saving live.
Seeing Dr. Shepherd talking about her experiences, being there and not able to help some of these children made my heart break. It must be beyond all bearing to be just a bystander in these cases.
We’re here in our well educated, wealthy world full of luxury, while on the other end of the globe so many people suffer. And we seem to forget. Cause it’s easy.
Anderson made a great and important job. He brought back to our minds that there’s more we have to think of. That there are things we have to remember and solutions that have to be found. Still. Every day.

The last company I’ve been working for supported the World Food Programme. Today I’ve been asking myself why I haven’t done that anymore after I’ve left.
I guess I’ll go back to that point and make a change.
In the end – don’t lose your smile…

The Plumpynut report was one of the best he’s done. It’s terribly sad to see the children who were starving and the helplessness of the aid workers and the children’s parents, but watching these same children get the nourishment they need from that remarkable substance was heartwarming.
